The majority of eyecare professionals are generally satisfied with their current income level, according to findings from Jobson Optical Research’s 2025 ECP Income Study, which offers insights on what ECPs are earning across the country. This extensive study shares the average income for optometrists, opticians/dispensers and optical office managers in the U.S. A full comparison of males vs. females is broken out across all demographics. Jobson Optical Research polled its internal database of ECPs for the study. Total respondents included 308 optometrists (all working 32+ hours per week), 241 opticians/dispensers and 75 office managers. Participants had from June 26, 2025, through July 15, 2025, to complete the survey, and they were asked to report on their 2024 income.

The survey gathered responses from full-time optometrists, optician/dispensers, and qualified office managers, most of whom work in independent optical settings. Optometrists reported the highest satisfaction rate with their income at 63 percent, with office managers following at 58 percent, and optician/dispensers at 46 percent.
